At nearly two and a half, George is barely articulate. But he is picking up words and phrases more quickly now, and he is starting to mumble less and enunciate more. This is a good thing for all of us. Lucy started a game with him where she asked him, "George, are you a big guy?" and he answered by jerking a thumb at himself and saying, "I uh big guy!" Of course, this was so cute, that the girls did it over and over until George got sick of it. Now, when you ask him if he is a "big guy", he furrows his eyebrows and replies "Uh NO big guy!"
With his improved language skills, George now gets a turn saying prayers. It's the repeat-after-me deal, but he still feels included and important. Sometimes we can actually understand what he is saying, sometimes it is unintelligible-yet-adorable mumbling.
This morning, I asked him to say the breakfast prayer. He carefully arranged his utensils around his bowl, bowed his head over his granola, squeezed his eyes shut as tight as possible, and folded his arms in a reverent death grip. I began for him, "Dear Heavenly Father..." And he repeated, "Uh {mumble mumble} Daddy..."
Yup, he is a big guy.
